Privacy Policy
Last updated August 13, 2026.
This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers Redactle at redactle.net and Redactle Rush at redactle.net/rush, including their games, multiplayer rooms, and related pages.
Some features only exist in one place. Accounts and advertising are on redactle.net; Rush progress is currently kept on your own device rather than in an account. Multiplayer rooms are in Rush and not on redactle.net. Where that matters below, we say which product a section applies to.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account details such as email and login credentials (redactle.net only)
- Guesses and gameplay input you enter while playing
- A display name you choose when joining a multiplayer room, which is shown to the other players in that room (Rush only)
- Ratings, comments, and reports you choose to submit, including feedback on a puzzle or on the game itself
- If you are signed in to a Redactle account when you send feedback or a report, we record which account it came from so we can follow it up
- Anything you send us directly, for example a support or privacy email
Information collected automatically
- IP address, browser type, device information, and operating system
- The browser user agent string, which we record alongside feedback and reports so we can tell whether a problem is specific to mobile, desktop, or a particular browser
- Pages viewed, session timing, and basic activity logs
- Event and interaction signals used for product analytics and diagnostics
- Cookies, local storage values, and similar tracking signals
Information stored on your device
The games keep an anonymous player id, your theme preference, your current game, completed history, scores, guesses, and timing data in your browser. Game history is stored in IndexedDB. This stays on your device unless it is sent to us as described below.
Rush progress is held on the device you played on and is not currently tied to an account, so clearing your browser storage for the site clears it. If we add account sync to Rush in future, we will update this policy before any progress is stored against an account.
Information sent to the server
When you finish a game, the app may send an anonymous result record containing the puzzle id, anonymous player id, score, timing data, and game state. Reports include the round id, the reason you selected, your guesses, and an optional comment. Feedback includes your rating, an optional comment, and the game it relates to.
Multiplayer rooms in Rush are temporary. While a room is running we hold the room state, the players in it, their chosen display names, and their answers and timings, so the game can be scored and shown to everyone. Room state is discarded after the room expires.
How we use information
- Run, secure, and improve the sites and game features
- Operate login and account-related functionality (redactle.net only)
- Run multiplayer rooms and show live standings to the players in them (Rush only)
- Measure product usage with analytics to improve game quality and reliability
- Understand which puzzles and features work, using the ratings, comments, and reports you send
- Troubleshoot reliability and performance problems, including on specific browsers and devices
- Detect abuse or fraud and comply with legal obligations
- Support advertising and measurement where ads are shown
Analytics
We use analytics tools that may set or read cookies and similar identifiers, to measure aggregate gameplay events such as page views, completed rounds, and shares.
- Google Analytics (GA4), on both Redactle and Redactle Rush.
- Microsoft Clarity, on redactle.net only, to understand aggregate session behaviour and UX patterns such as scroll, click, and navigation behaviour.
You can limit analytics tracking using browser privacy settings, content blockers, and cookie controls where available.
Advertising cookies and personalisation
Ads are shown on redactle.net. Redactle Rush does not currently show ads and does not load ad provider scripts.
Where ads are shown, we use third-party vendors including Publift and Google. These vendors may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
If you are a supporting user on a paid supporter plan, we do not track your sessions for ad targeting or ad personalisation.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
Under CCPA, California residents have the right to declare their preferences on the sale of data for advertising and marketing purposes. If you wish to change your preferences, use the preference portal below.
Rush does not show ads, so there is nothing to opt out of here. To manage advertising preferences for Redactle, use the portal on redactle.net/privacy.
Wikipedia content

Data retention
We keep information for as long as needed to operate the service, maintain security, resolve disputes, and meet legal requirements. Retention periods vary by data type and purpose. Multiplayer room state is short-lived and is discarded once the room expires.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect information. No system is perfectly secure, and no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed as 100% secure.
Your choices
